Training Opportunities
Introductory Workshops are held each month to let you experience the joy of Mantrailing! After graduating from the Introductory Workshop, teams attend progressive training sessions to develop their skills as they move through the levels of achievement.
Introductory Workshop
Start here! Your training journey starts with an Introductory Workshop where you will learn the basics of Mantrailing. You and your dog will actively participate in performing introductory trails that familiarize you with how the sport is run. Most importantly, you will learn about the joy of building a working relationship with your dog.
Workshops are limited to no more than 6 dog and handler teams. Workshops typically last two to three hours.
Cost is $150.
Workshops are held at various outdoor locations such as city parks, school grounds, or neighborhoods.
At the end of the workshop, we talk about your next step in progression training, what the different levels include, and continuing educational opportunities.
Progression Sessions
After successfully completing the Introductory Workshop, you are eligible to participate in Progression Sessions. Sessions are limited to 4 teams. Sessions last approximately two hours.
Cost is $50 per session.
Participants run their dog on two trails, as well as serve as a Trail Layer, Decoy, or Flanker.
Teams will learn how to perform starting rituals, Intensity Starts, Delayed Starts, and Scent Article Starts. They will determine how their dog wants to indicate finding the Trail Layer.
As teams move up through the levels, they will learn to perform Single Blinds, Double Blinds, Split Trails, Split Starts, and how to work through distractions like barriers, gates, doors, cross trails, and decoys. Advanced dogs will trail into and through buildings to find the Trail Layer.
Levels:
Green = Novice
Blue = Intermediate
Gold = Advanced
Continuing Educational Opportunities
Zoom training sessions are offered to on-going students. You will learn more about scent, how it moves, the effects of weather on scent, and watch videos of Mantrailing teams at work.
